NORTHSIDE TOY DRIVE HOSTS CHILLIN’ & GRILLIN’ BBQ

Families and groups invited to enjoy free summer event

AMARILLO, TX – Northside Toy Drive (NSTD) will host its second Chillin’ & Grillin’ Family BBQ on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Thompson Park Lake House.

“This is the kickoff to our season of giving,” said Elton Bradley II, NSTD founder and president. “We are excited to offer some family fun in the sun before we gear up for the Christmas season”

Families and organizations are encouraged to bring their own grills, tents, chairs, and blankets. The organization will provide two DJs, and food trucks will be onsite.

From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., NSTD will offer free mini camps for children in 3rd through 8th grade in partnership with partnership with 101 Elite Men (fishing), TP Sweatbox Skills Training (athletic skills), and Coach Detrick Johnson (basketball).

Also from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., NSTD will offer a free mental health breakfast with Dr. Nekesha Oliphant as the keynote speaker. The breakfast is hosted in partnership with the Fulleylove Foundation.

More giveaways for children begin at 10 a.m. Amarillo Police Department will cook hot dogs and hamburgers donated by Tyson Foods. ABC7 and Roasters will handout free backpacks full of school supplies for children of all ages.

The event is also a chance for NSTD supporters to purchase their table for the Black Tie Affair formal event to be held in December.

“We had to cancel the Black Tie Affair last year due to COVID restrictions, so I’m excited to say that we are back and ready to party with purpose,” said Bradley. “We are bringing some of the best entertainment from across the country to Amarillo.”

ABOUT NORTHSIDE TOY DRIVE
Northside Toy Drive began in 2013 when a small group of givers gathered for a social hour and filled a small trailer with toys for Amarillo area children. The event has grown to one of Amarillo’s most popular formal events, and the giving spirit remains. In addition to spreading Christmas joy through toys, Northside Toy Drive, a 501(c)3 organization, also gives scholarships to high school seniors.
