NORTHSIDE TOY DRIVE CONTINUES CHRISTMAS TOY GIVEAWAY TRADITION
Amarillo area children invited to pass through event at Hodgetown stadium

AMARILLO, TX –Northside Toy Drive (NSTD) will host its 8th annual Christmas Toy Giveaway for area children Saturday, December 19, 2020. The socially distant, pass through event will begin at 1 p.m. at Hodgetown Stadium, located at 715 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo.

“We’ve worked to share holiday joy with Amarillo area children each year, and we couldn’t let the difficulties of this pandemic stop that tradition and cancel Christmas,” said Elton Bradley II, NSTD founder and president. “We have adapted our format to ensure we follow all health recommendations during this fun family event at the ballpark.”

Children ages two to 12 are invited to choose a Christmas gift. Registration is not required for this outdoor event, but the children must be present. Guests are asked to enter through the right field patio gate at 8th and Lincoln.

Per stadium policy, all participants must wear a face mask. The City of Amarillo Public Health Department will conduct temperature screenings for volunteers and all attendees.

Each family will also receive a special gift thanks to a partnership with Square Mile Community Development.

Preparations for the toy giveaway began in August. After canceling its largest toy collection and fundraiser, NSTD quickly switched gears to host a drive through collection called the Toyathon last month. The organization has also collected toys from various donation barrels around the city and funds from local businesses, online, and through The Panhandle Gives.

NSTD Board Member Julian Reese said, “Amarillo has been such a blessing to us. We are excited to share what the community has given to us with these children.”

ABOUT NORTHSIDE TOY DRIVE
Northside Toy Drive began in 2013 when a small group of givers gathered for a social hour and filled a small trailer with toys for Amarillo area children. The event has grown to one of Amarillo’s most popular formal events, and the giving spirit remains. In addition to spreading Christmas joy through toys, Northside Toy Drive, a 501(c)3 organization, also gives scholarships to high school seniors.
